I’m helping a northern NYC psych program **that’s actively building a Shared Governance structure as part of its Pathway to Excellence journey** find their next Behavioral Health Nurse Educator. You’d be covering two (soon to be three) locked adult inpatient units, including a shiny new 6-bed MPU (Medical Psych Unit), plus doing education support for the ED’s psych volume. You won’t have a patient assignment (hallelujah), but you *will* be the go-to for making sure everyone knows how to de-escalate without turning into mall cops. You’ll run a monthly de-escalation course that includes ICU, ED, Security, and your Psych RNs. If you’ve ever said, “That’s not how you hold a therapeutic boundary,” under your breath while biting your lip… you’re probably already doing this job unofficially.
They’re looking for someone who’s a subject matter expert in adult inpatient psych nursing—someone who can teach from experience and isn’t afraid to set expectations. You’ll work closely with a collaborative Chair of Psychiatry and be expected to inspire and hold nurses accountable. Bonus points if you’ve been quietly educating your peers for years without the official title. No clinical load here, just mentorship, policy updates, rollout planning, and coaching.
Here’s the fine print:
* NYS RN and BSN required
* Master’s preferred now; must be obtained within 3 years
* Experience in inpatient psychiatry nursing is a must (educator title not required)
* M–F schedule, 8–4
* Off-shift hours only for major projects, go-lives, etc.
* You’ll also interface with student nurses (they come with their school instructors)
