The Role (a.k.a. the Part You Actually Care About)
This is a full-time Addiction Psychiatry position for someone who prefers practicing evidence-based addiction medicine over explaining for the 40th time that “MAT is not replacing one addiction with another.”
You’ll join a respected Long Island health system in a thoughtfully structured role that values clinical judgment, continuity of care, and sanity.
Schedule:
- Monday–Friday, daytime hours
- No call (yes, really)
- Potential for telepsychiatry options down the line
The Clinical Mix (Surprisingly Reasonable)
This is a true 50/50 split between inpatient and outpatient addiction psychiatry — not the “50/50” that somehow becomes 90/10 by month three.
- Outpatient:
- Approximately 6–10 patients, shared with a Nurse Practitioner
- Focused, longitudinal addiction treatment — not volume-driven chaos
- Inpatient:
- Roughly half the outpatient volume
- Medically complex, diagnostically interesting cases where your expertise actually matters
No conveyor belt medicine. No impossible productivity expectations.
Just work that looks like what addiction psychiatry is supposed to be.
You’re a Fit If You Have:
- Fellowship training and Board Certification in Addiction Psychiatry
- Comfort navigating co-occurring disorders, withdrawal management, and the ever-present “is this primary psych or substance-induced?” question
- A healthy appreciation for structure, collaboration, and clinical autonomy
Why this may work for you:
- No overnight call, no weekend grind
- No bloated panels masquerading as “team-based care”
- A schedule that allows you to practice addiction psychiatry and still have a life
This is a role designed for psychiatrists who want to do meaningful addiction work without burning out or burning bridges.
