General Practice Dentist

new york city

Our client, a nationally recognized academic medical center running a network of FQHCs in the New York City area, has an opening for a GP dentist who wants to do real dentistry: full-scope, full-panel, no assembly-line production quotas masquerading as “efficiency goals.”

This is a 4-day-a-week position with no on-call.

Read that again. No on-call.

You will not be paged at 11 PM about a cracked cusp.

The setting is community health, which means a genuinely diverse patient population with real restorative and perio needs … not an endless parade of whitening consults.

You’ll have the clinical autonomy to treatment plan thoughtfully, the institutional infrastructure to back you up, and colleagues across medicine who actually pick up the phone when you send a consult.

This Dentist role has the collaboration that works: medicine, pharmacy, behavioral health, all in the same ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Full-scope general dentistry: diagnosis, comprehensive treatment planning, restorative, extractions, perio management, endo within your comfort level, and timely referrals when the case calls for it.

You’ll supervise dental assistants and RDHs chairside, and provide formal clinical supervision and competency evaluations for dental residents and students rotating through the ambulatory setting.

Documentation expectations are what you’d expect from an academic health system: complete and timely charting in the EMR, accurate encounter forms, and billing paperwork that doesn’t haunt the revenue cycle team.

Departmental meetings, peer chart audits, and quality initiatives are part of the deal, as is occasional participation in community outreach and screening events.

Required Qualifications

  • DDS or DMD from an accredited institution
  • NYS unrestricted dental license — active, clean, no asterisks
  • Current BLS certification
  • DEA registration
  • Infection Control Certificate
  • Child Abuse Certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising residents or dental students
  • Spanish or Chinese language fluency (English required)
  • 1–5 years of clinical experience; new graduates with strong clinical foundations will be considered

Compensation / Benefits

$90–105/hour. Benefits are comprehensive and in line with what you’d expect from a major regional academic medical system, the kind of package that doesn’t require a decoder ring to understand.
